13 Years of Staghead Designs
This month marks 13 years since Staghead Designs officially began, and what a journey it’s been. Like many great stories, ours started with love, a little frustration, and a spark of creativity.
From the Founders
When we (Brad and Liz) were getting married, I was overwhelmingly disappointed with the options available to me. I had limited knowledge of jewelry and a very, very limited budget. I ended up with a "mall" ring and, while I still love its meaning and sentiment, I yearned for something different for both myself and my husband.
Then one day, while hiking the hills around our home, we found an antler shed, and I asked Brad to make me a ring from it. So he did, and then he made more and more, eventually adding wood to them. We started selling them at farmers markets and on Etsy, and slowly, Brad became a self-taught wood and antler ring jeweler.
Fast forward 13 years, and we’re now a team of over 30 talented individuals, creating handcrafted jewelry from our cozy workshop in Ogden, Utah. What started as a personal passion project has grown into a full-scale operation, yet our heart has remained the same.
Defining Milestones
Over the years, we’ve hit some major turning points that shaped who we are:
-
Our first real investment: Buying a metal lathe using Brad’s entire savings, which let us craft titanium-lined rings that were much more durable and elevated than the original solid wood and antler rings.
-
Reframing our purpose: We originally sold our wood and antler rings as fashion rings. Once we leaned into the idea of these being wedding bands, things really changed.
-
Introducing engagement rings with gemstones: This opened up a whole new chapter for us, allowing us to work with beautiful, one-of-a-kind gemstones.
-
Going all-in with craftsmanship: Brad became a GIA-certified gemologist and learned CAD design, casting, and advanced benchwork. We brought nearly every part of our process in-house, from design to production, so we could ensure quality every step of the way.
Staying True to Our Values
Through every season, our values have remained the same:
-
Handcrafted, local production: Everything is designed and manufactured here in the heart of Ogden, Utah. We believe in high-quality, handmade products and supporting our local community.
-
Customer-first mindset: We understand that our customers are celebrating one of life’s biggest moments. That’s something we never take lightly, and we always strive to go above and beyond for our customers.
-
Always improving: Whether it’s a new design technique, a better customer experience, or holding ourselves accountable, we’re always pushing to do better than yesterday.
What Makes Us Different
We’ve never been happy to just follow trends; we’ve always aimed to set them. From day one, we’ve challenged the idea of what wedding jewelry "should" be. We design with intention, embracing natural materials and creating rings that tell a story.
We’re proud to say that we do nearly everything in-house, from digital design to casting to gemstone setting. This allows us to pour our energy and creativity into every piece while ensuring high-quality craftsmanship. And while we occasionally collaborate with other incredible artisans, our work is largely the result of a passionate, tight-knit team right here under one roof.
Looking Ahead
Thirteen years in, and we’re just getting started. We have so many exciting plans for the future, but one thing will never change: our commitment to making meaningful, beautiful jewelry for those who want something as unique as their love story.
To every customer who has supported us and to every team member who’s helped bring our vision to life, thank you. We’re so grateful to be on this journey with you.
Here’s to continuing to create outside the box, grow with intention, and craft one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story.
With gratitude,
The Stag Fam
