Moissanite - The Best Kept Secret In Wedding & Engagement Jewelry!

MOISSANITE VS. DIAMOND

Moissanite is one of the best secrets in wedding and engagement jewelry! Moissanite not only has a higher refractive index than diamond (meaning more sparkle!) and nearly the same hardness, it comes at just a fraction of the cost of traditional white diamonds! And a little known fact - moissanite comes in a variety of colors ranging from black, champagne/yellow, blue, green, and so much more! Love fancy colored diamonds and gems but don’t want to pay the fancy prices? We have colored moissanite for that!

Colored Moissanite Engagement Rings

Moissanite, which is silicon carbide, can be found naturally, but it is extremely rare and is found mainly in meteorites. Because of this, almost all moissanite is lab-grown, providing it with several perks:

  • Cheaper cost
  • Lower environmental impact & more sustainable
  • Avoids humanitarian & ethical concerns sometimes associated with unethical diamond mining
  • Near flawless clarity without the high costs associated with flawless natural gems

There are other perks to moissanite as well: moissanite scores a 9.25 on the Moh’s hardness scale, sitting just below diamond, making it the second hardest gem! Moissanite is durable and extremely difficult to scratch, which makes it an excellent choice for everyday wear! This toughness also means moissanite can endure unique cuts and facets and comes in various shapes and cuts. The styling options with moissanite are endless! As mentioned above, moissanite also has a higher refractive index than diamond, so its brilliance and fire, and overall sparkle are even more eye-catching! Finally, moissanite comes in even more colors than just traditional colorless, meaning it not only works as an alternative to white diamond, but its colored variations can also serve as an alternative to other stones such as sapphire, emerald, colored diamonds, etc. We are excited to offer moissanite in colorless, icy blue, medeina green, champagne, brown, and midnight black!

MOISSANITE CARE AND CLEANING

Because of its 9.25 ranking on the Moh’s hardness scale, moissanite is a very durable gemstone option. It does not scratch or break easily, so it is a good option for everyday wear. However, for the safety of your in and finger, we advise that you avoid wearing it when doing any of the following:

  • Manual labor
    • Sports, going to the gym, gripping items with force such as bicycle handlebars, luggage, etc.
  • Household chores
    • Washing dishes, laundry, cleaning, etc.
  • Working with chemicals such as chlorine or bleach, extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics, etc.

As an alternative to wearing your ring during these activities, we offer a variety of silicone rings that can be worn in lieu of your wedding/engagement ring. Browse our silicone rings here

To clean a moissanite ring, use warm water and a soft brush or cloth. Ultrasonic cleaners are usually safe for use with colorless moissanite rings, but they should always be used with caution. It is not recommended to use ultrasonic cleaners with colored moissanite stones. For complete care and cleaning guidelines, view our Care Guidelines page here
